Glimstedt goes back to Ivar Glimstedt (1884-1966), who was a solicitor in Gothenburg from 1923. On 3 January 1935, Ivar Glimstedt registered his firm as Ivar Glimstedt, Solicitor. He was a prominent and well-respected lawyer who contributed much to the good reputation of Swedish lawyers. During his time, lawyers gained official recognition as members of a prestigious profession subject to high expectations. Ivar Glimstedt was not merely a competent professional but his strong legal pathos gave his work a deeper meaning. He served his clients with a clear focus on the essential, leaving aside anything irrelevant. With his empathy and humble spirit, Ivar Glimstedt was the epitome of the competent and reliable lawyer. Today, at Glimstedt we continue to work respectfully in his spirit.
Glimstedt was first established at Östra Hamngatan in Gothenburg. In 1986, another office was set up at Alingsås.
As a result of mergers with renowned law firms employing highly skilled lawyers and litigators, Glimstedt expanded considerably during the second half of the 1990´s and presently has offices in more than 10 cities in Sweden.
From 1997 onwards, Glimstedt has set up offices in the Baltic States´ capitals of Vilnius, Tallinn and Riga. Our activities in these cities are rapidly expanding, and our services in the Baltic States are increasingly in demand among companies and organisations in Sweden and abroad.
The importance of working closely with lawyers outside Sweden was understood at an early stage, and we have been member of the Association of European Lawyers for several years.
The firm's development from a smaller law firm in Gothenburg to the present organization comprising more than 170 lawyers with offices throughout the country may be compared to the steady growth of the oak tree with its strong branches; hence our choice of the oak leaf as our symbol. Although a mighty appearance with its branches, the tree relies on its leaves for continued life. Nothing grows without the constant supply of nutrients. We apply this insight to our organization, feeding it with competence and an increasing amount of legal services; the process may be likened to applying photosynthesis to our particular activities for the benefit of our clients.
Glimstedt has existed for more than seventy years and we look set to go on well past one hundred - just like the oak tree.
